Manly Man…

October 1, 2008 at 1:39 am (Production, School)

Well, I have never thought of myself of the MANLY MAN type… you know, the guys who are into building things, power tools, no instruction manuals (well, i don’t use them anyways)… well, past two weeks, we have been constructing sets for our 16mm films… we have been working non stop… one of the cool things about our Art Direction class is that they kind of throw us right into things and start building… they show us the basics but after that we have to use our creativity to build the rest… i was never to fond of power tools and building things but i have come to really love it… one of the projects i had was to build some kitchen counters for our kitchen… how do you build a kitchen counter from scratch… where do you start… well, my creative juices started flowing and wood was getting nailed and hammered together and somehow i came away with what i believe is a kitchen counter… the pics show the counters almost done… it is missing the actual counter top and the handles…

this was from when we were painting them…

oops, sorry for it being sideways… but those are the counters… i’ll have more and better pics of the complete set soon… and next week i’ll have a behind the scenes look at our short film…

Seventy-One

June 28, 2008 at 3:03 am (Production, School)

So i just got home from our documentary shoot. We wrapped up our shoot today. The past couple of weeks we have been following around a 71 year old weightlifter. He has such a great story and message for all athletes young and old. Him and his wife have been very welcoming of us following them around and coming into there home. Tonight after our shoot his wife actually prepared us a meal which was really nice of them. Hopefully, i’ll have a trailer up soon for everyone to see. The final product will be done by the end of next month. I also had the pleasure of directing this documentary. Well, i’m off to the editing room…

Dulcet Conversation…

June 1, 2008 at 4:39 pm (Advanced Lighting, Production, School)

I thought you guys would enjoy watching one of my latest projects… my group was only the second group of all the classes to take advanced lighting in Full Sail history to receive a 100 on our project… The class itself has only been around for about a couple of years… i was the director of photography on this project… this was my first time being DP… on past projects i have shied away from taking on the position of DP… The DP is in charge of the look of the film in regards to the lighting… i never really loved lighting but after taking my advanced lighting class i have come to love it… alot…. this was probably the most fun of all the projects i’ve worked on… well enough said, i hope you guys enjoy Dulcet Conversation…

The Twilight Zone…

April 29, 2008 at 7:03 pm (Production, Twilight Zone, Uncategorized)

There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man’s fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call “The Twilight Zone.”

Here is the episode that i’ve posted pictures of and been talking about… i would love to hear everyone’s input on what they think about the video… keep in mind this is part 1 of 3 for this episode… i’m gonna get the other edits from the groups and post the other two parts… hope you enjoy…

Another long day…

April 4, 2008 at 6:42 am (Production)

Today was an assist day for me… my group had to assist another group on their production… it was very much a long day because the group we helped were unorganized… it was pretty much chaos… but other than that it was fun and exciting to be on a film set… there is nothing like it… we also did a lil bit of location scouting again today and while we were driving i saw a restaurant and the name of the place was “Cuban Food On The Run”… i thought that was the funniest thing… i wish i had a picture of the place but i don’t… anyways, i watched “Doomsday” at the dollar theatre today also and i thought it was a very good movie… Me in spencer’s car Flower

Its a wrap…

April 3, 2008 at 8:58 am (1st Day Of Shoot, Production, Twilight Zone)

Yesterday was such an awesome day… We had the pleasure to go on location to a bar and shoot our film… we were the only group in our whole class who got to go on location… We arrived at school at about 3am to load all the gear into our cars, then headed over to the bar… we started setting up at the bar around 4am and were ready to shoot by 4:30am… i was really happy because our group was able to work together and get things done smoothly… pretty much it was a very long day… we were suppose to be wrapping up around 4pm but because we were able to work together, we finished around 1:00pm… we all had so much fun… Menothing like drinking some red bull at 3 in the morning…  Me on Cam A I was the head camera op on our shoot…

Back to school…

April 2, 2008 at 12:31 am (Production, School, Twilight Zone)

So today I drove back to Orlando at about 5:30 am… i hate waking up that early… I usually sleep in til like 3pm… at least when I don’t have class… i was very fortunate to have about 3 weeks off from school for spring break, which is the longest break i think i will ever have for the rest of my time here at Full Sail… anyways, i was eager to get back into the swing of things here at school and thats exactly what we did today… it was our first day back and man was it a long one… I had class at 9am and it lasted until about 6pm… well, it wasn’t really class… we are getting ready for our Twilight Zone production, which we are shooting tomorrow (call time is at 3am…) we did alot today… we had Blocking with our actors, Put aside all the equipment we are gonna use, Checked to make sure it all worked, went on a quick location scout(story for another blog…), came back double checked our equipment again, discussed issues we are gonna have like parking and car pooling for going on location, and finally ended the day with one last run through of our equipment… it was such an exhausting day but very excited… this will be our first production… here are some pictures from our very long day…     Joe Burdis and Kevin Calderon     Joe Stringfellow Twilight Zone Script The Gang
